The option was there, just waiting to be disabled … I just could not figure out it was the right one!
So if you are using compiz 0.6.x like me, all you have to do is turn the “Snap inverted” option of the Wobbly plugin: if you need the snap enabled for a short time (e.g.: to place a window near the borders) then move the window while keeping the shift key pressed.
There’s already a ‘Snapping windows‘ plugin with this version of Compiz, but it does not seem it can be activated together with the Wobbly one.
